Tata Tigor: 10 Years of Success

The story behind the name

Badhai ho (congratulations) to Tata Motors on the upcoming (March 2017) 10 year anniversary of the launch of the Tata Tigor. The Tigor was the first of their two, Appella-named, modern, compact and affordable cars for the domestic market. The internally named Kite project was commissioned to Appella to replace the Tata Zest and Bolt models that ‘did not have the desired success as a profound restyling of the previous Indica Vista and Indigo Manza.’

In fact, so successful was this replacement name for the Zest, that it has undergone two design ‘facelifts’ in 2020 and 2025 while retaining the original Tigor name.
